
I wrote about my own reaction and why there is such a need for more realistic images like hers. For me, it goes beyond expanding a narrow definition of beauty. We all need exposure to a wider variety of bodies in order to understand the reality behind massive weight loss. I have to adjust my own expectations, because they are based on unrealistic bodies that have never gone through what I'm putting mine through.
If all goes well, there will hopefully be some more images of women with loose skin, cellulite, and stretch marks to show what real weight loss looks like. At least, in one issue of Shape magazine. That is an issue I may actually invest in and purchase a copy.
Brooke blogged about the original story, and then wrote about the media whirlwind that ensued when her photo and post went viral. Gotta love the Internet, eh? There is nothing louder than a voice that someone tries to silence.
